  1. Android is a brain child of Andy Rubin,the founder of Android Inc.
  2. Google bought the company in the year 2005 and hired Andy Rubin to head the Android.
  3. Android is an open-source operating system which basically means that the user can change the code and make another version for himself.
  4. Android is built using various programming languages such as C, Java and C++. C makes the core and Java takes care of the UI..
  5. All the versions of Android are named after desserts. (Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice cream sandwich, Kitkat).
  6. Google gives Android free of cost to cellphone manufacturers.
  7. There are around 7,75,000 android apps on the Google play store and this number is growing by the day.
  8.  The first ever mobile handset to run Android was the HTC Dream. The first Nexus(devices produced by Google) phone was also manufactured by HTC.
  9. Android is moving beyond mobiles and tablets to camera and wearable technology(Google Glass)
  10. Kitkat is the first version to take a proper brand name, obviously named after the chocolate bar following a partnership with the wafer biscuit's maker.
