Random : 5 things you didn't know about Amazon Rain Forest

  1. Around 80% of the food we eat originally came from rainforests. Examples include coffee, chocolate, rice, tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, black pepper, pineapples and corn.
  2. At over five million square kilometers, the Amazon rainforest is the largest in the world.
  3. An estimated fifty tribes native to the Amazon rainforest have never had any contact with the rest of the world.
  4. An estimated number of 2,700 million acres of the rainforest are burned each year.
  5. The forest floor is almost completely dark – with less that 1% of the available sunlight making it through the tree canopy above.
